So I’m throwing in my 2 cents regarding Christina Aguilera’s new video for ‘Not Myself Tonight’. I think she clearly references Madonna’s videos for ‘Human Nature’ and ‘Express Yourself’. And I don’t have a problem with that because who hasn’t referenced Madonna in a video?

Regarding the Lady Gaga comparisons, I think its unfortunate and it’s being blown out of proportion by Gaga’s little lap doggie Perez Hilton. There are similarities (the sport the same pair of sunglasses), but I think thats the only real direct link between Xtina’s video and Gaga’s “Bad Romance” video. The other similarities are superfluous, I don’t think Xtina needs to rip off Gaga, she’s a true artist on her own, has been around longer than Gaga and I think it’s bullshit that everytime she dresses a little controversially it’s deemed a “Gaga Rip Off”. Lady Gaga is not the only person thats allowed to dress badly after all…..

Ok so technically there still is a girlband going by the title of Sugababes. But the best incarnation of the  Sugababes,(Heidi, Keisha and Mutya) that gave the world pop gems like Freak Like Me, Stronger, Round Round, Hole In The Head, Push The Button and Too Lost In You, are no more. Sonically no girlband before or after have been able to touch them and if there was any justice in the world they would have sold more albums than Destiny’s Child.

2. J.Lo aka Jennifer ‘Don’t Call Me JLo’ Lopez.

At the start of this decade, J.Lo was the golden girl. She had number one movies and number one albums, fragrances and clothing lines everywhere and she was dating people who looks like human beings. Fast forward 9 years and I honestly can’t tell you the name of the latest single or her most recent film. And she’s married to a corpse. Jennifer Lopez has become so blase, so totally boring that it’s hard to fathom why we bothered in the first place. Except for ‘Play‘. That was a hot song!

3. Gay Television

In the early 2000′s we had Queer As Folk, The L-Word, Will And Grace, and Queer Eye for The Straight Guy. I can’t think of one comedy or drama on TV right now that is mainly gay orientated. Even the amount of gay characters in TV shows seem to be at a low point. We need a good gay show again people. And I’m not talking about The Style Network or Glam Guru dammit!!!

4. Cool music chart shows.

America had TRL on MTV. We had The Fanta World Chart Show on 5fm. Yes these chart shows kept the intrepid pop watcher like myself informed of what was hot and who ruled the charts. But with the popularity of the internet exploding this decade, these sources of information seemed to shrink in popularity and are no more. Which is sad because Saturdays mornings don’t feel the same without Brown Sugar’s voice lighting up the airwaves from 10:00 to 14:00. RIP World Chart Show!

5. Boybands

Yes at the start of the millennium boybands were still very much the craze. Backstreet Boys and N’Sync were still at the height of their powers and selling millions of albums. But at the end of this decade the conventional boyband formula seems all but dead, with no more N’Sync and Backstreet Boys sans a member and not really relevant in the pop stratosphere. Yes we have the Jonas Brothers, but without crazy choreography and immense key-changes for the last chorus of their songs, can we really call them a proper boyband..?? Do they have anything in their discography that can match the sheer pop-mastery (and cheesiness) of ‘I Want It That Way’…? I don’t think so.

Went to see Julie and Julia with my boy yesterday. Of course he wanted to go see New Moon, but luckily for me it was all sold out. (Ok ok, I confess I’ll go see it just to stare at Taylor Lautner for 90min, I could think of worse things to do). But I’m getting side-tracked here….

Julie and Julia stars Meryl Streep and Amy Adams. The film contrasts the lives of Julie Powell as she attempts to cook every recipe from Julia Child’s French Cookbook in one year, and that of Julia Child as she writes said cookbook. It’s a wonderful film with great performances from both Adams and Streep. Adams’ character writes a blog about her experiences cooking the recipes, which kinda got me thinking that I should scribble something on my blog as well. So here I am.

If bloodsuckers, sexy werewolves and annoying girls who never smile aren’t your cup of tea, I highly recommend Julie and Julia. Even if you think this film isn’t the type of thing you’re into, give it a shot. It’s really fun and yummy to watch. Bon Appetite.

Although it’s not official, Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner have been seen out together quite a lot the last couple of weeks. The optimist in me believes she’s his hag and he’s really into boys, but the realist in me thinks they make a cute couple.

Can’t believe its Halloween again already. This year has really flown by!! Anyways, if you feel like renting a good scary movie to mark the occasion, rent Tric R Treat. It’s scary, it’s original, it’s funny and really well written. So for all you horror film buffs out there, this is a must see! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

Its our favourite delusional diva, Mariah!! It’s her new single. And it’s so cheesy I tried to make a sandwich with it. But the bread and ham ran away in fear…. I feel bad, I really do!

Bad Romance is Lady Gaga’s new single off The Fame Monster album. Its not bad. It’s not her best. It doesn’t put me off, but I don’t have that urge to hear it again once it’s over…. Lets hope she has more to offer on the new CD coming out…

This is Rihanna’s new single, Russian Roulette. It’s the lead single off her forthcoming album, Rated R. Its dark, haunting and exactly the single she should be releasing after all she’s been through. Brilliant. And gutsy.
